• Davidson Constructions approach completion of breathtaking modern farmhouse in Macclesfield

Davidson Constructions, a highly reputable Melbourne-based builder, with over four decades of experience, is undertaking one of its most unique home builds to date.

They’re well advanced in the construction of a modern farmhouse in Macclesfield in the Yarra Ranges. Within the space of four months, the team at Davidson has reached the lock-up stage of the contemporary residence on Spillers Lane, after being commissioned to build and design the home.

Graeme Davidson, Davidson’s Director, said they took the build-on when another wouldn’t.

“The client had initially spoken with another builder, but for them, it fell into the ‘too hard’ basket with some challenges to overcome with the build, least of all the overlays and the restrictions on the levelling and excavation of the land,” Graeme said.

Davidson was happy to take on the complexities of the project and moved into the early design phase.

“We sketched a rough draft, and when the client decided to move to progress with us, we then had our in-house draftsperson take the concept design and create what would become the final design submitted to the council.

“The client had a clear vision and how they wanted it to look. We were there to guide them through the process.

The client utilised Davidson’s relationship with One to One Group so they could actually stand in the floorplan of the home on a life-size scale.

Graeme says it’s one of the best sites he’s worked on.

“I remember the first time we inspected the site and the breeze picked up, blowing the leaves of a Cherry Blossom Tree. It was like a Disney Movie. The views are amazing, and that informed the design to orient everything to the back of the house to capture the views from the main living space.”

Davidson is part of the Combined Builders Network, so the client has access to an interior design that will guide them through the rest of the build. They have a full-spec showroom so those looking to build a home and fit it out with interiors can see the kitchens in real life, and feel the tiles and the tapware.

Davidson Constructions handles a wide variety of builds. They’ve recently finished a second-storey add-on for a home in Brisbane St in Berwick, while in Noble Park they have been completing a development of eight townhouses.

They do around 15 to 20 builds per year.

“Clients we are talking to, they’re looking at longer term developments and forever homes,” Graeme says.

“They're looking for that builder who pays close attention, and for a custom builder, we think we represent excellent value without compromising on quality.”
